What is PRP/PRF at South Coast Aesthetic Clinic?
At South Coast Aesthetic Clinic, we offer Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) and Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) therapy—sophisticated regenerative treatments often referred to as the 'Vampire Facial'. Unlike synthetic injectables, this procedure utilises your body’s own biological resources to stimulate cellular repair and collagen production. By harvesting concentrated growth factors from your own blood, we can offer a natural approach to skin rejuvenation that is designed to help improve skin texture, tone, and overall vitality. This treatment is ideal for those seeking a bio-stimulatory solution to manage the signs of ageing, scarring, or a dull complexion.
How PRP/PRF Works
The process begins with a small sample of your blood, which is placed in a specialised centrifuge and spun at high speeds. This separates the platelets and fibrin from the red blood cells, creating a highly concentrated "liquid gold" serum. When this serum—rich in essential growth factors and cytokines—is re-introduced to the skin via microneedling or precise injections, it triggers a powerful healing cascade. The growth factors signal your body to accelerate tissue repair and stimulate fibroblasts to produce fresh collagen and elastin. PRF is a second-generation advancement that creates a fibrin scaffold, allowing for a slower, more sustained release of growth factors for enhanced regenerative results.
What PRP/PRF Can Address
Fine Lines and Wrinkles: Designed to help soften the appearance of delicate creases, particularly around the eyes and mouth.
Skin Texture and Tone: May improve the appearance of uneven skin surface and manage large pores.
Under-Eye Rejuvenation: Utilised to manage dark circles and hollows by improving skin thickness in the tear trough area.
Acne Scarring: Helps to refine the appearance of indented scars by promoting new tissue growth.
Dullness and Lack of Radiance: Designed to help restore a youthful "glow" through improved cellular turnover.
Skin Laxity: May manage mild sagging by supporting the structural integrity of the dermal layers.
FAQs
Is this treatment safe? At South Coast Aesthetic Clinic, safety is intrinsic to our practice. Because PRP and PRF utilize your own blood, the risk of allergic reaction or rejection is virtually eliminated. The procedure is performed in a sterile clinical environment using single-use, medical-grade equipment. As with any injectable treatment, there are minor risks of bruising or localized infection, which our practitioners manage with strict clinical protocols.
Is the treatment painful? Most patients describe the blood draw as similar to a standard blood test. For the facial application, we apply a high-strength topical anaesthetic cream to ensure the microneedling or injection process is as comfortable as possible. You may feel a sensation of heat or pressure during the procedure.
When will I see results? Results from PRP and PRF are progressive rather than immediate. While you may notice an initial "glow" shortly after treatment, the true regenerative benefits typically emerge between 3 to 6 weeks as new collagen is synthesized. For optimal results, a course of 3 treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart is often recommended.
What is the downtime? You should expect some downtime with this procedure. The treated area will typically appear red—similar to a moderate sunburn—for 24 to 48 hours. Mild swelling and occasional bruising are common, particularly around the delicate eye area. Most patients find their skin returns to a normal appearance within 3 to 5 days.
Aftercare Guidelines
Avoid touching or washing your face for at least 6 to 12 hours to allow the serum to fully absorb.
Do not apply makeup for at least 24 hours to prevent infection.
Refrain from strenuous exercise, saunas, and swimming pools for 48 hours.
Use a clean pillowcase and avoid sleeping on your face for the first two nights.
Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 50 daily, as your skin will be temporarily more sensitive to UV light.
Avoid anti-inflammatory medications (like Ibuprofen) for several days, as the treatment relies on your body’s natural inflammatory response.
